For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we talked with Tasha Harville about her experience as a Lead Product Manager at Spruce. Tasha’s passion for modernization, learning from others, and thinking outside the box add immense value to Spruce’s team, clients, and the title industry as a whole.

What is your go-to work playlist?

I listen to music that complements my current state of mind or the task at hand. My Pandora playlists have a wide range from cheeky dance music, to the soothing voice of Nora Jones, and it's what I listen to when I'm working, cleaning, or doing any type of physical exercise. When I need to get into a good creative writing mode, I turn to instrumental movie soundtracks. This allows me to focus on my writing without being distracted by the lyrics of a song.

What is your career super power?

Without a question, the ability to empathetically listen. Everyone's story fascinates me, whether it's that of a client or a colleague. Not only does it make work (even more) fun, but it has a business benefit, too– getting to know each customer and learning about their needs, challenges, and strengths is critical to excellent product development and positive interworking relationships.

What is the best advice you've ever received? Or... What advice would you give yourself from day 1 of your career?

Find a mentor and learn - both work skills and soft skills!

Favorite thing you look forward to at the end of your day?

There are two things I love to do after a long day at work, and they both relate to listening. The best part of the ride home from school is chatting with my sons about their day. I delve deeply into their "adventures" by asking a multitude of questions, and am always learning new things about them each day. My spouse and I will then do the same thing together while we prepare dinner. For the same purpose, I listen to him rehash his day and then pepper him with questions to understand him more–then it’s my turn.

How is Spruce making an impact on title and closing services?

Spruce is laser-focused on innovation and adaptability to modernize the closing process.  Since we have a unique combination of industry knowledge, secure automation of operations, and true dedication to our clients, Spruce is able to do things that other title companies either don’t attempt, or cannot attempt. We are not constrained by the statement "this is how we have always done it;" rather, we are intent on making the closing process the best it can be by utilizing the best of reliable technology and human connection every step of the process.

What is your favorite thing about working at Spruce?

Hands down the people.  The Spruce crew takes immense satisfaction in their work because they actually love doing it. I have never been to a place where the employees care so deeply about the happiness of their customers and the excellence of their work. Nothing or no one else can compare to it (though it’s possible I’m biased!).

What motivates you?  (favorite quote, best advice, even your favorite caffeinated beverage):

Traveling! I am a travel addict so I am always looking forward to the next adventure or place to explore.  I countdown the days to our next trip, even the quick weekend ones.  For each trip, I build agendas to maximize every minute and experience everything each location has to offer.
